2023 Projects
Circus WOW: A Comedy of Errorials:
An aerial and circus skills project that used Culture Bank funding to replace aging safety crash mats while providing public taster classes for the community.
Funding from culture bank supported circus wow, to showcase and replace their much-loved crash mats that were ready for retirement.
These often overlooked and trodden upon. Safety mats are celebrated as stars of the show. ‘a comedy of errorials’ where adult taster classes were also provided.
Where the Illawarra community can ‘have a go’ learning aerial and circus skills in a safe environment.
Dire Theatre Company: Radio Variety Hour:
An immersive, experimental interpretation of Orson Welles' catalogue of radio plays performed live to a completely blindfolded audience.
Our idea was to create live, immersive performance interpretations of Orson Welles catalogue of radio plays to a blindfolded audience.
The dire theatre company radio variety hour contributed to the cultural vibrancy of Wollongong’s arts sector by offering local professional performers and artists a chance to participate in an original, experimental, and artistically significant ongoing project

Oh My Goddess:
A creative narrative project by Ali Jane Smith exploring gender, domestic life, and history through the perspective of an ancient goddess who becomes an everyday person.
Ali Jane Amith had the opportunity to help create a work that used the details of every day life to draw out deeply felt issues of gender, culture, domestic and working life in Wollongong.
‘Oh my goddess’ makes use of this same strategy, but with time rather than place, as the focus of the story.
An obscure but undaunted goddess who has lived through both extraordinary and intimate events all over the world through thousands of years reflects on her life and decides to take the monumental step of becoming an everyday person with skin in the game of life.
A Gentle Talk About Death with Little Ones:
A project by music teacher and funeral celebrant Malika Reese designed to help children aged 4–10 develop emotional language for grief and life changes.
“We live in such a death averse society. I have been teaching music to toddlers for nearly 20 years and have been a funeral celebrant for nearly 6 years by blending these two skills together, I am excited at the possibility of having a conversation, that many think is too hard, for 4-10 years old.”
The idea of this project is not only to talk about literal death, it's giving children a language of emotions for other changes that will happen in their lives. End of friendships, losing toys, parents divorcing. And growing up.
Beyond Empathy - Project:
Gammin at the Knockout is a rap song celebrating the resilience and creativity of young Aboriginal people in the Wollongong area. This project aims to create a music video for the song and conduct promotional activities, including a launch for the video at the 2023 Koori Knockout at the NSW Central Coast.
The project objectives include creating a music video, promoting it through social media and other means, launching it at the Koori Knockout, and providing opportunities for young Aboriginal people to engage with the community.
