2021 Projects

Fault/Lines:

A large-scale participatory performance work by Katja Handt that transformed the Wollongong Town Hall into an airport transit lounge to explore arrivals, departures, and belonging.

Through exploration and participatory processes to make large scale performance works, in 2019 the Wollongong town hall was turned into an airport transit-lounge in this show that explored departures, arrivals and belonging.

This work focused on how people interact with spaces, structures and systems that define human beings.

The collective approach to creating performance asks people to be playful with these structures, to find new ways of seeing the world around them.

The project invited the community to use art to respond to crisis including environmental, health, economic challenges.

Vaudevillawarra:

A classic variety show by Corey Pickett that toured regional community halls to bring music, comedy, and circus directly to local audiences.

Culture bank funding provided employment for local artists who created a classic vaudeville variety show that included music, comedy, circus and theatre. The wish was to to take this show to venues that vaudeville and music hall shows were once performed in, community halls.

“I love the idea of taking a show to the people rather than the people to a show.” Corey Pickett

 Short + Sweet Film Festival:

A highly democratic, open-access 10-minute film and storytelling showcase that deliberately removed barriers between professional and amateur artists.

An open access and culturally inclusive event. Within ten-minutes each segment and in all genres, the event provided an opportunity to return ownership of that vital story telling ability to community.

The highly democratic approach to the making and presenting of art. By not distinguishing between the professional and the amateur instead welcoming both.

In using the skills and experience of one to inform the enthusiasm of the other - whilst harnessing the passion of both.
