The Siren Project - Rentell, Anne-Louise
A performance work in development by Anne-Louise Rentell blending Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid with the local Indigenous myth of the Five Islands.
The Siren project is the working title of a new performance work which draws narrative inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s the little mermaid and the local aboriginal myth of the story of the five islands.
While quite different stories, both the indigenous and the western tale involve 6 sisters and 6 monologues underpin this new work.
The project tells the story of 5 women from different periods in Port Kembla’s history, and their meeting with Geera, the reincarnation of grandmother mountain (Mt Keira). A dramatic turn of events reveals the women’s true identities as mermaids prompting their return to the ocean and their elemental state.

A free, non-commercial street music festival celebrating community and social justice, bringing mobile, acoustic brass bands to Wollongong from all over the world.
Honk! Oz is a free non-commercial music festival. Community and social justice are at the heart of honk! Oz. Bands are not paid to participate - they come at their own expense, inspired to connect with other like minded musicians.
A Honk! Band is colourful, acoustic and mobile. Honk bands are inclusive and community minded. They take their musical inspiration from mardi gras and carnival, and from street music gatherings across Europe and South America. They borrow a fusion of repertoire from a diverse set of music traditions; New Orleans second line, Klezmer, Balkan and Romani music; Brazilian samba and frevo; jazz, funk and popular music.

Jacuzzi Workshop
The grant assisted our music workshops, which are designed to encourage more female, trans and non-binary entrants to the electronic music industry.
These were created to assist the promotion of gender diverse music, aimed at individuals with no previous experience. These have successfully provided a pathway for these aspiring musicians – we’re ecstatic that these can continue and grow as a result of the grant.
An experienced mentor and equipment was provided, with a workshop covering the use of turntables, CDJs and common mixing technique.
